How soon can I use my unheated blowaway?

    Evening all.

As some of you know, I've started my seeds off early this year, with the aid of my new home made grow cabinet.

    I have health seedlings already.

At this point, it would be good if I could clear the box and start another batch, moving my existing seedlings to the unheated blowaway, but I'm also aware we don't get much sunlight yet, and there is still a very real risk of freezing conditions even in the blowaway.

So how soon do we reckon I can move stuff out?

I would say not at least till mid April. If all your seedling go out before then they will be stunted by the cold. I would find the sunniest part of your garden and place it there. Also I would cover it in a old blanket for extra protection :snork:

I agree with Mowgley, it doesn't matter when you start the seeds off, the seedlings will not survive outside until mid to late spring.

Blowaway inside a cold conservatory or greenhouse with a lightbulb in the bottom (for heat), or a Tee-light on cold nights, will be better than just the greenhouse itself

Trouble is C1 that you are all LED now, and as you know they won't give you any waste heat at all!

Large containers (5L or more) of hot water will provide some warmth for quite some time .... best to experiment with a Max/Min thermometer on a cold night before trusting it with your precious plants

But ... as well as protection and warmth ... you need light. Not much of that in January, and only a little in February.

Better still would be artificial light this early in the year, in which case indoors (insulated in garage or similar) would do

Need high levels of light though [for growing], not just a dangling bulb
