I have random thorn/rose bushes which have decided to grow in the most awkward of places and are actually causing problems by frequently stabbing myself and my kids..

Question is, how the hell do I get rid if them?!

The quick answer is.......dig them up. But then again, are they Shrub roses, climbers or ramblers??? Perhaps a pruning might be suitable for at least some of them to bring them under control. :dunno::coffee:

Cut them down, then dig them out. Lots of layers of old clothes for the cutting and thick gloves. (My colleagues thought I was self harming when I was cutting my briar and roses back). It's hard work but satisfying

Well, they seem to be more long vines reaching a long way across the garden. No sign of flowers or anything yet though so I'm confused and fed up of getting stabbed.

Are you sure they are roses and not blackberry/ bramble?

Okay, so they sound like Ramblers of some variety. I would buy a stout pair of gloves, some secateurs and go in there fighting. If you want to get rid of them then cut them right back and dig up what is left. If you want to keep some then hard prune them back to just a couple of shoots and see if that will jump start them into flowering.:coffee:

Good morning @Sarah Giles get rid of them:thud: Now the question is Sarah Giles how the hell did they get in such a state as they are,its not the Roses fault ,there's no such thing as a out of control Rose just disinterested Rose owners;) would it be at all possible to post some photos of your beautiful Roses, and then we could give you the correct advice, and just maybe teach the children that Roses can be their friends and not to be feared;)

Yes I agree with Adendoll that it's quite likely that they are brambles. A photo would be helpful - I'm very familiar with brambles :gaah: :)

I think you might be right about them being brambles. Thinking about it I've never seen flowers on them but I'm not very knowledgeable in thorny things! Will take a pic shortly

Brambles flower later in the season (little white ones) ... just before they develop plump blackberries :)

Hmmm can't say I've ever seen blackberries, though I did find a huge, random raspberry bush last year!
