Is it the same as most other seeds? Just follow the instructions on the packet?

The reason I want to try from seed is that all I see is the purple ones in the garden centres, can't we grow different types in the UK?

I did (can't remember what the instructions were, that I followed, but I got plenty of plants)

I've grown a couple of species of Heuchera from seed. The latest was Heuchera cylindrica which is currently growing happily in pots for planting out later. Germination was good and no special conditions were required.

Chiltern seeds offer some. I think I got mine through the RHS seed distribution.

          I have grown:

          www.plant-world-seeds.com

          HEUCHERA JET BLACK

          www.seedaholic.com

          Heuchera cylindrica "Greenfinch"
          Heuchera sanguinea "Firefly"

          Also:

          Heuchera "Emperors Cloak"
          Heuchera "Metallica"

but I don't seem to have a note of where I bought them. They both germinated well though.

These aren't as fancy as the Named Varieties, but: they grow much more vigorously, for me, and have nice enough foliage, and flowers, that I ain't bothered. Cheap & Plentiful, thus filled all my gaps with ease :)

That's the ticket, thanks both! I wonder if I could get them going now for Spring next year...hmmm.

Yes. Sown now they will put on enough size to be good plants next year. Will need to be kept under cover over winter, but frost-free, or even lightly (but not excessively) frosted over winter should be fine.

Quite tough little things then, I didn't think they would be.

I don't think that the named varieties are - well ... especially on my heavy soil. Heuchraholics suggested to stick to the larger leaf (named variety) ones, on heavy soil, as they were more tolerant than the smaller leaf ones. Not surprising, to me, that species are the strongest of the lot.
