    Afternoon all,

I was wondering how can I collect the rain water which falls on the polytunnel?

Is there a product I can buy/make to help me harvest it?

    Any tips/advice?

    Many thanks,

    Samuel

It is possible to buy a kit to harvest the rain from a poly-tunnel, but in my experience the ‘gutter’ is just too narrow to be effective , only about 6mm wide, so easily silted up or the water just spills over. I did rig up a rather Heath-Robinson affair on one of our Community Allotment tunnels using strong polythene sheet, gaffer tape and some canes, see picture. – It works very well, but needs regular attention as the tape becomes unstuck easily.

We were thinking of putting corrugated clear light on ours with guttering & have a large plastic drum at each corner with down pipes to each drum. Maybe up on stands.

Probably the most effective way would be to dig a trench, submerge the largest size guttering and backfill with gravel. The guttering would need a run down to a well that you dig. It will need a means of pumping it out though.
