how to make an oak into a bonsai?

Hey there all,
can someone take a look at this pic and let me know if i should be cutting the plant shorter now if i want it to be a bonsai???

I would cut it down about a third to try and get the lower dormant buds to shoot

 

The most importaint part of making bonsai trees is root pruning in the early years. It looks at bit big already try pruning it top and bottom but if you have the patience, try planting an acorn in a very small pot(2 inch?) in poor compost.
