Im in the process of doing this, take out of the pot, wash the compost off and cut all of the shoots off, you are left with a roundish Tubor, let them dry out and then wrap them in newspaper, place them in a container with a lid and keep them in a frostfree shed/garage.. dont forget to label them if there different colours..

Does this only apply to tuberous begonias?

Is now a good time to lift them or should I wait until the foliage and flowers die off completely ? ?

I agree it is a shame to lift them when there is still some colour, But like ydd I have taken all mine up and cleaned the tubers, And then put them in wine boxes with all the paper from my shredder under and over them, They are left like that until spring, I left them a lot later one year and they were very wet makes the job a lot harder then good luck
