Good morning, Sam, and welcome to GC. You must surely be the youngest member ... good for you taking an interest in gardening so young! [IMG]

Most varieties of Acer are grafted but, if you have some low-lying branches, the most successful way would be to try air laying. To air layer, choose a young and flexible stem. Make a cut about 1-2 inches long on the bottom side of the stem and place a matchstick or a twig in it to keep it open. Bury this area about six inches deep, pin down and cover with soil. Water well and hope for the best! It could take up to a year to root! [IMG] You could try a cutting but they are difficult to root. If you have any seeds, you should overwinter them in damp litter or refrigerate them. Whatever you choose, good luck! :D

I agree with L of L Sam, dont think cuttings are likely to take, a layer might though, I've not tried it myself.
Seed may well not be like the parent plant, its a bit of a gamble, but who knows you could come up with something good. [IMG]

I have tried it without success. They stay alive for ages but ultimately die off producing no roots. I think if it could be done they wouldn't be so expensive and you wouldn't see so many grafted ones ?
