I'm on the lookout for slightly more unusual summer flowering shrubs. Spring flowering there is a huge choice but not so great for later in the season. I live in Scotland and therefore always have to be conscious of how hardy things are! My soil is pretty free draining (acidic) and I don't live on top of a mountain but that said some winter (not this last 1!) can be pretty severe. I have never grown Itea but it looks quite an interesting plant and a bonus having good Autumn colour. Know absolutely nothing about it, does anybody have knowledge of it and could advise me if I have a hope of growing it here. Thanks.

On the Crocus website it says it's 'frost hardy' so I would need some protection in winter :)

Thanks Merleworld, doesn't sound as tho it would be suitable here if Crocus are saying it needs some protection presumably referring to England! Think I'll keep looking for something which will probably be happier here.

Hmmmm, Thanks Merleworld for the suggestion. Already have Cotinus Coggygria which I'm fond of but don't have Grace. Only slight snag with Cotinus is they are pretty slow growing or are here anyway and I'm getting old! Will definitely consider, much obliged.
