Seen as we're nearing the end of our 2014 gardening year how was it for you?

Mine started off quite productive, seeds sown and grown on well until they were planted out and got massacred by slugs:gaah:2015 will see me trying out 'Nemaslug' slug killer on the smallish bed where my Delphiniums grow:fingers crossed:.
My veg patch was pretty poor this year but I still say it's the soil/compost in my raised beds so when this frozen period of weather eases up I'm going to replace it with top soil and plenty of muck:dbgrtmb:
After a rocky start with the tomatoes in the GH they faired well in the end but my main problem was the fluctuating overnight temperatures .Although we had a good warm summer the night time temperatures rarely got above 14/15 degrees which was a big drop of at least 10 degrees from the day time temperatures.:rolleyespink:

On the whole it hasn't been bad but I've had better growing years.
Looking forward to next years challenges:dbgrtmb:

Mine was a pretty much a non-starter - but, that was due to the vicissitudes of moving home.

All that I accomplished in 2013, bore "fruit"/flourished during 2014 (bar a couple of losses on the shrub front and that was due to water logging). Veg patch was a non starter - it really was a busy year without much space/time/inclination. No tomatoes begun. But, the strawberry plants did well.

However, I have planted a variety of bulbs in two "house inherited" troughs, and, the past two days I have seen them sprouting  So, if that is my only accomplishment of 2014 - I'm a happy camper ;)

After a disruptive start, (nothing like moving home at the start of the season:doh:) Things picked up with some help from my friends :)

Tomato crop was reasonable despite the blight.

Got thousands of Manx Marvel seeds processed and stored :)

        Couple of unexpected prizes :)

But didn't do so well with the onions

And got a totally neglected area under reasonable control :) DSCN0623.JPG DSCN0676.JPG

Not bad:) The pluses were having our first crop of walnuts, a lot of shrubs and trees put on good growth thanks to the more regular than usual rainfall. Good crops of tomatoes and cucumbers from the polytunnel. Had the last ones over Christmas:yes: Got a freezer-full of strawberries, cherries, peaches, asparagus and green beans to see us through the winter as well as all the bottled stuff. All the tender stuff in the flimsy greenhouse survived as well as all the borderline plants outside, but then apart from a couple of weeks in November there were no really hard frosts.
The top fruit was a bit disappointing as, despite splashing out on pheremone traps and glue-bands, the apples were plentiful but wormy and the pears were small and horrible. Same with the greengages.....not enough water at a critical time, I reckon.
Lost 75% of my seedlings to sciarid fly infestation so will be mixing my own peat-based seed compost in 2015!
Certainly can't ever say I'm bored by gardening here...it's much too unpredictable :)

I was poorly for the entire first half of the year. It was about spring time when I conceded that I simply didn't have enough spare energy to look after the garden, so I reluctantly gave up on it on advice of lots of people who told me there's always next year. They were nearly wrong as it happened, but I'm still here:)

Mine was really productive made the veg patch and grew stuff

Grew tomatoes for the first time in the greenhouse it was the first year i had a green house

Nextdoor put the new fence up so got a new flower bed

And got the patio and path done and pergola added

So apart from the veg patch there has been minimal growing but all the layout and stuff is done :-)

Being on all the planting next year
