I've had to abandon the garden for the last 11 days, due to having to be back in my flat for Dad's hospital appointments and then a few days on the coast for a small break. It was great to start with, weather wise but then turned awful with heavy rain (Kent Coast) and high winds again.

I'm returning to the garden in SE London and although I have an automatic watering system, I'm dreading seeing the condition. I've not been able to deal with our slug problem and just hope that everything has not been munched! Has the rain and wind destroyed my plants and have my tomatoes started to ripen?

I am so on edge about seeing it, silly I know but it's going to be hard tomorrow opening the back door to see what awaits. Fingers crossed.
    Ho hum.

I reckon everything will be ok. You might have to do a bit of tidying up if it's been very windy but you'll soon get on top of things I'm sure :)

Am sure it will be ok

I was away for the first 2 weeks of August.
A few things had suffered from a lack of water, but nothing too serious.

Well, just back home and what hasn't been munched by the slugs and snails, has been murdered by caterpillars. There are hundreds of them, six to a leaf. Not a happy bunny!
Loads of tomatoes but not a red one anywhere. All my lettuce have been eaten to nothing.
Everywhere is covered in webs and spiders. Oh and it's just about to rain for a change.

Gardening eh? You have my sympathies, I've never seen so many caterpillars, so destructive.

This is just a small part of the destruction. Any ideas on the caterpillars and what to do to combat them? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440714508.012057.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440714521.495200.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440714531.695701.jpg

They look like Cabbage White caterpillars. I think the only way is to pick them off by hand.
