Anyone owns / used one? Fill tube with weedkiller and then, without bending, "squirt" each weed - has a protective collar which should stop any drift etc.

Can't say I've seen one of those before much less use one. I'm a recent convert to using a flame gun; no chemicals, no drift, point the flame gun and fry the weed.

Fraid flame gun wouldn't suit me. Hot end squeezing inbetween plants would burn them, and would only burn the top off Bind Weed etc., whereas Glyphosate is much more effective (albeit I don't get a one-shot kill, over several applications I am overcoming Bindweed, my main problem is getting "Between" plants to make application of a good dose

The collar is narrow. If the weed is tiddly just pull it out, if it's large spray with glypho (or pull out). I couldn't justify buying one really.

Andrew I found with flame guns......
    a) Not very good at killing weeds , they do tend to grow back.
    b) Very very good at accidentally burning conifers down

Yeah, I'm with you there ...

I have a large area, and my "Jobs list" says for both April and May "Make sure you kill the Bindweed in this timeslot otherwise its a nightmare for the rest of the year" - as the plants grow it becomes harder and harder to get in there with chemicals, so have to resort to hand weeding, and finding it amongst the plants (without making the place look like Bull + China Shop!), and part of my problem is finding days that are both dry (for 6 hours after spraying) and have no wind. The garden isn't THAT exposed, but its flat here in Suffolk, so there tends to always be a light breeze ... and I think that this sort of shielded device might do ...

... mind you, I've used a "hood" over a sprayer before, and all I found was that after spraying a few weeds the inside of the hood was coated, and the resulting run-off, and drips, from the hood became the main problem to be dealt with!!

Give the bindweed it's very own bamboo or cane, let it climb, paint it with dab on weed killer gel and put an empty plastic milk bottle over the top of the cane to stop the gel washing off or getting smeared onto neighbouring plants
