    Hello Everyone,

I live in Hampshire in the UK.

I ave joined this forum because me and my partner recently bought our own home complete with garden. Being that the garden is about 24' wide and around 55' long we figured I should do something with it.

I have some basic knowledge on plants and gardening but am researching all the time at the moment.

We currently have one side completely grass. The other side sides the tool shed, bunny shed, bunny runs (attached to the shed), and more grass. Down the middle is a path and that is it.

What me and my partner would like to have is decking across the width of the garden and extending six feet out. Then either side of the path planters both around two feet wide and around two maybe three feet tall.

And I want an allotment at the top of the garden. Complete with a "plastic" green house and compost bin. And all my partner wants is in the summer to enjoy sitting in the garden with all it's pretty flowers etc.

Me? Well I'm never afraid of trying something new. If something needs doing then I just get on and do it. I am fairly competent at building things. After all I did convert a shed for the rabbits to live in.

Still I'll stop there as it's getting to be a rather long introduction
    Mossiac

You'll get tons of advice here, and probably seeds and cuttings too as time goes on.

We love photos by the way, so don't be shy about showing us photos of your garden or sketches of what your plans and dreams are :blue thumb:

Ok so the picture is still on hold as it has done nothing but rain today. Still there is always tomorrow.

Ok finally managed to get a couple of pics. And here there are.

This is facing the bottom of the garden.

        This is facing the house.

Same order here just with annotations.

As you can see I have labelled a couple of bits just to give an idea of size.

        So what do ya think?

Which way does your back garden face Mossiac? I'm thinking, any buildings like the rabbits home or a shed should be placed on the side that's in most shade so that plants or your vegetable plot get the best of the sun elsewhere.

Think long before laying decking. It will need some maintenance every year and can be very slippery under foot during the winter months.

May I suggest a little extra screening from the properties facing your garden, perhaps a hedge or mount some trellis on the current fence to grow climbers. I wouldn't suggest conifers like your neighbour has, their roots spread tremendously and will eventually damage drains and property footings.

I do believe that it faces south. We get the sun right across the back and the shade from the shed doesn't even make it to the path.

Well we do have plenty of time to think about the decking as it will be at least a year before we would be able to afford it.

Houses at the back doesn't really bother me too much but might give me a reason for some lovely climbers.

We would like some sort of tree just before the veggie patch but not sure what to get. Though conifers were not on the list. I was thinking maybe a plum tree??

I'm not a veggie grower but thinking would a tree put to much shade on your plot and roots drain it of water and nutrients? Sorry, I'm not trying to put obstacles in the way, just thinking how you would get the best out of your garden. :)
