Guys , I`m looking for some plants of lupulus , would love to get more then few variety I will be glad to trade pay or if anyone can tell me a place where to order it... thank you all
Blimey, don't pay for that, I can dig some out for you! There's only the two varieties as far as I know. Plain green or yellow.
It's the Hop flavours that the plants have been bred for rather than the ornamental value. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hop_varieties I made some beer using wild ones once, it was terrible. but I had to drink it
Sheal thank you but the golden variety is nothing more then ornamental Madahhalia thank you ever so much , but what I`m looking for is actually more deep then that ......but in case could you post a picture of your plant please is it a male or a female? A friend of mine at University is looking for some commercial hop used to produce beer in UK as much as try to introduce new variety able to stand the cold and the hot summer .... Zigs or anyone else , any help appriciate
It's the only uk relative of the Cannabis plant, you can smoke the leaves but you tend to fall asleep due to the soporific effect
It grows up the telegraph poles around here out in the countryside. Mainly escapes from the hop gardens of yesteryear. I think they are still grown on a very small scale in Kent.
There was a programme on Radio 4 yesterday afternoon about hop-farming in Herefordshire, only about 60 growers left in the UK, producing 1% of the global output. Sal, my plant is a nice yellowy-green in Spring, but gets greener as the year goes on. It is very pretty early in the year, gets a bit rank later. If I take a photo now it won't look very good. (Looks out of window.) Well, it's not too bad, leaves are browning round the edges. Not sure whether it's male or female, how do I tell? Is it beer you want it for, or decoration?
