Get everything tied up they reckon we have a windy experience about to hit us..gordon will be lashing our gardens..Hope he doesnt take my greenhouse as i have allready lost 3 to the wind..
Parts of the UK are bracing themselves for storms as the tail-end of a hurricane makes its way towards Britain.

Northern Ireland and Scotland will be worst hit when Hurricane Gordon arrives on British shores later this week.

The storm is set to bring heavy rain and strong gusty winds which could reach up to 75mph, forecasters said.

Its allready windy here the met office has issued a warning about the lovely weather on its way..
The Met Office is forecasting a period of very windy weather over western parts of the United Kingdom in the next few days. The strongest winds are expected during Thursday with Northern Ireland most at risk. Gusts of 70-80mph are expected. Winds of this strength early in the autumn are likely to lead to disruption to transport and power supplies. There is also a small risk of exceptionally severe gales with gusts in excess of 80mph.

I've been following this on one of the weather forums I visit - and at the moment it does seem to be heading our way. Thursday onwards some of us may see some hooligan winds !

I do love extreme weather (obviously not the damage it can leave in it's wake) give me a good ole thunderstorm or lashing rains, heavy frost or snow fall and I get all envigorated !! [IMG]

... better tie up the tree fern then!!!! We usually get the tail-end around 10 days or so afterwards....
What forum is that you go on, Moonloon?? Before the kiddies, we used to go down to the seafront and watch the thunderstorms out to sea....

I think it will get to us before you guys, albeit more Lisbon / Sines way, so I'll let you know it's strength. We should have it tomorrow. Gordon is then followed by Helene. Coming into rain season we desperately need it to raise the water tables as we had a rather dry winter last year.

He's still in the Atlantic off the western coast of Portugal / Spain, not even up near the Bay of Biscay yet.

same here, Dalbuie - you're on the east too, aren't you?
It's been a pretty wet day, with sunny intervals, but the wind got up in the late afternoon, and I was tying everything down!

Strange looking at your post re the weather where you all are. We are a small island but the weather is so different. It's been very dry here and not a breath of wind. Forecast for tomorrow is still hot and dry with rain by the weekend. Plants are flagging in the bone dry soil.

Been a bit breezy here today and warm, supposed to be very warm tomorrow, but breezy again.
I see a mild wet winter is forecast.

Bin watching both Gordon and Helana on the hurrican centre
    http://www.nhc.noaa.gov.
Must admit that Helana looks more trouble for the UK, and Gordon for Spain and Portugal. Batten down the hatches LofL
