My Annabelle is a one year old plant.
It has already started to produce new growth buds, so I'm itching to prune.
Is it still too early for this?

I pruned mine a few weeks ago. Annabelle the arboscens family or paniculata can be pruned anytime from autumn to late winter. It's macrophylla / others which are funny about pruning times. Annabelle can be pruned hard I cut mine to around 25cm high to a bud they flower on new wood

      Thanks @Perki
      I'll get onto it.
      Just one other thing...
I pruned this one last week, as I have always done and it's always responded and flowered well.
I have always thought of this as a lacecap, but seems it may not be, since a lacecap would not flower following a spring prune it seems?
Can anyone confirm what this is for me please?

The above certainly looks like a Lacecap to me and very pretty too. I grow quite a few and if I pruned mine in the spring I would get zero flowers that season as mine certainly flower on“old wood”. I prune my Lacecap by cutting about 1 in 4 stems right to the ground in a week or so which will then encourage new stems. These will flower the following year. I also grow Annabelle which like Paniculata flower on this seasons growth as Perki has already said.
Living in the north of the UK I do not prune my Annabelles for about another couple of weeks as I do not want to stimulate new growth for a while yet. I have not found any adverse consequences for pruning a bit later and certainly my Annabelles groan with flowers, almost literally! every year.

          Thanks,
As said, I cut my lacecap? back in March to 2 or 3 buds from the old flower heads, aiming to reduce it to around 0.50m, removing any old or dead stems to base. It seems to thrive on it.
          Curiouser and curiouser.

I recently moved my Annabelle to a better, more prominent position but haven't pruned it as yet. Mine will just get a light trim
