    Ericaceous compost.

My grandad had one for years that did really well. He had an open fire and whenever he cleaned out the ash he just kept adding it to this pile in his back yard. The Hydrangea grew in the resultant "ash mountain". He never fed or watered it, it just thrived in the ash mountain and whatever rain water it absorbed, but if you don't have an ash mountain at your disposal, then I guess ericaceous compost will have to do:)

"Not blooming" does not depends on the soil for these plants, it's either wrong pruning time or late frost damage, both things may remove the blooming buds formed in the previous season from the plant. Too late now for feeding, leave it alone, and don't prune it (neither in autumn nor spring), weather gods permitting, it will bloom next year. Welcome to the boards.

Oddly enough, my hydrangea hasn't flowered this year either.
I assume it's just taking a breather, it looks healthy enough. Maybe the weather has got it confused.
