    As some of you know my other half fell down the stairs on new years day. So ambulance, morphine, full body board etc and off to A&E.
    After a long day the verdict was broken ribs, severe bruising and muscle strains/spasms. Go home and rest and take ibuprofen and paracetamol.
    She is still in agony but refuses to go to the doctors. Today we got a phone call from the hospital which thankfully I did not find out about until this evening. It went like this;

    "We got a specialist to look at your xrays and he has spotted a fracture in a bone in your back. Come in on Friday at 9am to see him. Try to remain still"

    Why was it referred to a specialist for a second opinion after she was discharged? Why was she discharged if there was an element of doubt? Why is she expected to put up with it until Friday?

    When I had my cock-up with the painkillers I could not fault the care I received in the same A&E department (and Emergency Admissions ward). The way she was treated that day in the same A&E was bad enough, but now this.

    She doesn't want to cause a fuss because "I have to go there on Friday". I want blood!

      And could rectifying errors be part of the reason why hospitals are so overstretched? Do a job right, do it once.

      I'd be exactly the same if I were you - I would want blood too.

      At the least, I would kick up a stink with the NHS Trust involved

                To be fair she did say that it would hurt too much if she "lost it"!

                    I tend to agree.

                    Except for the incompetent one who missed the fracture and the doctor who told me to "go away , I'm talking to the secretary" when she was throwing up whilst still on the body immobiliser. An ambulance man about five metres away overheard and grabbed a nurse and rushed over and sorted that out. He slipped me his mobile number and has allowed me to name him as a witness in my complaint.

                    The whole thing was the polar opposite to my experience a few weeks before. So sad.

                      sorry to hear of this issue, longk. You can also address a complain to the organisation below. No improvement will happen in the short term, but they are supposed to gather all complaints (and compliments if there are any) of the local community, to then make something out of it.

                        A fractured vertebrae in the lower back confirmed. Signed off for two weeks minimum, in a removable body cast/brace and tooled up with prescription pain killers. She had a bollocking for laying on the sofa (I did tell her!). The consultant winced when he saw the bruising!
                        Back up there for the next two Fridays at least for MRI scans.
                        So out of her, stepson and me I'm still the only one to break a vertebrae proper!!
