........ I have a small oak growing in my garden and found some alien looking beasts that I identified myself (oak slug sawfly larvae). While I was searching for more larvae I found three embryo Groots. Anyone know what they really are? Any answers much appreciated.

Groot is a character from Guardians of the Galaxy. He's tree like and whatever that is on my oak leaves reminded me of Groot's hair.

Yes and the control is to pick the infected leaves off and burn or smash them. How many leaves are infected?

Three. I'd like to know what they are so I can decide whether to destroy them or not.

Well, I am not sure what they are...but..they are going to eat your leaves....I would pick the leaves off the tree and take them for a ride in your car out more into the country and let them lay on the ground somewhere far away from your house....They probably are harmless but they will make more babies....you don't want that...

They are called Oak Slugworm, they are sawfly larvae.
Not sure about the growths in the second picture though, looks like a type of fungus or lichen to me.

Yep I know what those are and they were disposed of. Just the other strange little clusters I'm curious about.
I'll google fungus and lichen as I hadn't thought of those.
