I can almost smell

The scent of ripening tomatoes..... yes it's time to get the propagator out of mothballs and sow!

 

I'm holding off for a few weeks as my main prop is in an outbuilding with west facing windows. Last year I was fighting against leggy seedlings due to lack of light

 

I wont be sowing mine till April as I only bother with outdoor ones.

 

I'm trying to resist till midMarch when I'm going to sow a couple of early varieties. And then main ones will be down in the end of March to avoid constinuous runs later: day-greenshouse, night-inside

 

I sowed mine two days ago, then some more this afternoon...

Does anyone know the variety of tomatoes that the supermarkets sell? Are they just golf balls painted red?

 

Do you mean those orangey red ones from Spain?
Mostly grown hydroponically under glass so bound to be tasteless.
