About an hour ago I was looking at my laptop while drinking a cup of tea, as you do, when suddenly the cup of tea leapt out of my hand drenching me and the laptop with hot beverage.

I'm not sure how much tea actually fell on the laptop and I dried it off asap. However, I now find the scroll pad doesn't work properly. It's not completely frozen but barely responds.

I have switched it on and off but that didn't help. I'm now hoping that it'll have come to its senses by the morning.

Any advice or recommendations? Apart from the obvious.

It may just need to dry out properly, you could try a hair dryer on a cool setting.

I'd take the battery out and put that and the laptop in the airing cupboard or somewhere else warm overnight and see what happens. I once dropped my mobile phone down the toilet and it was as right as rain after a night in the airing cupboard. I was tempted to get another one even though it was working after the mishap seeing as it had been down the loo but I was skint at the time. :eeew:

I once dropped a mobile in a bowl of soup and it died. I will try to dry out the laptop, if all else fails I could get a USB mouse.

The IT Section engineer where I worked who had to clean a keyboard that somebody had spilt a whole tub of cottage cheese onto at lunchtime still talked about it years afterwards.

dry it out in an airing cupboard or on the radiator. if still no luck after that try using the saltbath method. I spilt a pint on my brothers and it saved it.

Well, I'm using it but it's being very flighty. Seems to have improved after warming up. What is the saltbath method? It sounds worrying! It's already had one bath and didn't like it.

I'm finding the print enlargement gesture is over-sensitive while the cursor stays in the same place.

The tea landed on a lot of parts, hope they don't all corrode!

The good news is that after being switched on in a warm room for 5 hours last night. it's finally cured itself - although I was ready to chuck it through the window last night as it had reverted to unusable again. I had to use my ancient laptop which is incredibly slow, and try to delete some stuff and defragment it. A frustrating evening!

Seems fine this morning, back to normal. So I'll have to do that job application then. Fun.

Ta for your words of advice, everyone.

Sounds okay then, the rice method is fairly extreme. I spilt a pint of beer on my brothers and it was left like that for hours (until he found it in the morning). A couple of days in with the rice and it's fine (sort of, the cooling fan didn't make it so it get's 'quite' warm).
