I've just been listening to the defence attorney for the man who did the massacre at the synagogue in Pittsburgh.

"Just because he was at the scene, carrying weapons that had been fired and there were witnesses, doesn't mean to say he's guilty."

    He's pleading not guilty. :hate-shocked:

Horrified. How do these monsters, murderers and their lawyers, have the gall to plead this abomination !

I've read about a lot of Anti Semitic violence lately and just can't fathom the reasoning behind it. I've always had admiration for the faith. Well, to me, it has it's rituals of obeysance, but it is truly based on common sense and ethics. Nice stuff. Neatly done.

Hopefully it is well understood on this forum that I abhor racism and any form of hate crime but...........

The fundemental principle of justice is that everyone is entitled to a fair hearing and that guilt should be evidence based, not based on hearsay and gut feeling. The presumption of innocence is enshrined not only in law but also in moral decency. I cannot argue that based on what we have heard so far it does not 'look good' for Robert Bowers but in a modern world that is increasingly media driven, be it social or the more traditional form, that fundemental principle is rapidly disappearing.

To be clear, I am not defending the perpetrator of this crime, others like it or crime in general, but let's hang on to the side of right, not the side of hype. There is a chance that he may be innocent (I'll not speculate as to the chances of that), he may be genuinely mentally ill. Whatever, let people be tried fairly.

Cant really say I've taken much notice of this, but speaking in general, there is money to be made.
And no one does it better than the legal system.;)

They seem able to drag things out, make stupid claims, all in order to make money.

I agree, and I expected him to plead not guilty.

What seems peculiar to me is the wording that the lawyer has used (I've quoted it verbatim). It must be one of the worst opening defence sentences I've heard. Usually in these sort of situations the lawyers only speak gobbledegook!

I suspect at some stage he intends to play the , he's a flaming lunatic, card, and get him off, as voices in his head told him to do it.

As an opening gambit it was brilliant. He has basically taken what is being said by the media and said "how can he expect a fair trial".

It would be very unusual for a lawyer to actually be honest! The man is a lunatic whether he is guilty of this or not, you only need to look at his van to see that. If someone is just plain off their chump though they still know the difference between right and wrong.
A paranoid schizophrenic (for example) does know the difference and then suddenly they have no grasp of the concept. Of course the question that needs to be answered is whether the lucid self is hiding behind their illness having commited this crime or it was the "other self" that commited this crime.
