I have a corkscrew hazel in a tub. It's been somewhat neglected over this summer on account of my bad leg. But I got up this morning to find that it's sprouting catkins - at this time of year. Is this usual or another example of global warming or something?

I don't have one, but think they are wonderful. My sister has one and we (t'other half and I) gave one to friends as a housewarming gift when they moved from Bucks to Cheshire. Lovely tree!

not seen that at this time of year before, MMD - but my garrya is doing it! Not sure if it's meant to either - must check - it's new to me this year...
Do we say "Roll on global warming" or start panicking?

We had one that used to produce a handful of catkins in the spring. I noticed last year that the ordinary hazels had catkins in November and this year they are already on the trees.
