I Don't Believe It !.

The 3,300 year old Golden Burial mask of Tutankhamun has been permanently damaged after it's beard was stuck on with Epoxy.
The mask was broken while it's case was being cleaned at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

When the mask was broken,rather than calling in the experts, in a panic the Curator phoned her husband, who decided to do the repair himself using a glue bought in a D.I.Y. store.

The Adhesive leaked onto the boy Kings chin and had to scratched off causing further damage.

The botch job has also left a gap between the face and the beard,which was broken off and stuck back on (at a squint) with Epoxy which has a very high property for attaching and is used on metal or stone. . Tut Tut.

 

Blimey

Now a proper conservator should know how to dissolve epoxy.

 

Oh dear! Someone's facing the sack....or should be!

 

If you have been to Cairo Museum that doesn't surprise me , lots of antiquities look neglected.

 

Least he never gubbered a new one !

 

they probably realised it was made out of plaster as the guide told me lots off stuff has gone missing
