    Hi all,
Had a few christmas editions of garden catalouges thruogh my door , Suttons , Thompson and Morgan plus others and I cant belive the price they are charging for items like a bowl with 6 Hyacinths from £16.99
a Cynbidium (unnamed variety) £49.99 , a bowl of 20 crocus £14.99. Do they think we are all mad I can buy a cymbidium from McBeans orchids and it has a name for less than half what they want to charge and get Hyacinth bulbs at my local garden center at 50p each, nice to know your views

Yes I've seen it too. The Xmas Rip Off Season has begun in ernest

I was in the local town today and saw in a shop a Poinsetia with a bit of glitter sprayed on it for £18 !!!

Goodness knows who buys that overpriced stuff, certainly not me.

I have chucked a couple of those overpriced catalogs in the recycle bags already. They are for people who don't have a clue about gardening and can't think of something to buy someone.

Had a T&M christmas one today. Opened it, shredded anything with my name and address on and recycled the rest.:dbgrtmb:

Fens, it's those people without a clue about plants, also the same people who buy bedding much to early from diy stores and can't understand why they die when they plant them out.

It's not just at christmas is it?

This year I've seen a pot of Ipomea "Morning Glory" for £12, pot of Gloriosa rothschidiana at £18, the admittedly attractive low growing black grass (the name escapes me, we have it as a weed almost in Sues garden) for £6..............

Yet for £4.75 I bought a good sized Cantua buxifolia from Hill House nursery.

I think that what I'm trying to say is buy from those who love plants, not those who love money.

Jersey normally send me about 3 of the same catalogue, within a couple of weeks of one another... they're doing bouquets for Christmas.

            Hi All
With the weather last year was meant to going to my brother for boxing day with the weather so bad I didnt think I was going , so I sent them a T &* meant to be the 2ft Orchid yes I know £££ but it was last minute and had contacted one nursery who never got back to me until January asking how they could help :gaagh:

To cut a long story short I managed to get to my brothers and was so dissapointed as the plant had been swoped for somthing half the price !!!

So after I got home phoned and got a refund and will never bother again

Spruce - by two foot orchid do you mean Cymbidium?
            They are damned expensive!
I have two, both bought for £5.99 in the spring when they are out of bloom. I had three, but one turned out to be pink. Guess what my Sister had for christmas last year.........
