i dont know my onions

Hi, can any one tell me the best thing to feed onions with as they dont seem to be growing very well, the carrots are not doing very well either , any help i would be most gratefull thanks, mojo

Your veggies could be suffering from lack of water. Have you had much rain? It's surprising how just a few weeks without a good soaking will check young veg.

With onions, I usually expect them to reach midsummer on the basic fertiliser (chicken manure pellets) I give them at planting. Then I give them a mix-in-the-can type feed to make the bulbs swell but it's a bit early for that. We don't really want huge onions, though, and find that medium ones are more convenient for cooking.

I give carrots the same sort of regime. I get some forking,(possibly because of the manure-type pellets - who knows?) but they all go in the pot just the same.

So, I'd give them plenty of water first and then see how they look in a week or so. Plenty of time to feed later.

 

Mojo, to kick start your onions, sprinkle some Nitrate of Soda around them, and water it in. Try not to get any on the plants as it will mark them.:thumb:
