    Well sort of.
While in Spain last week we visited the El Refugio del Burrito.
    Donkey rescue centre.
    And I adopted a donkey.
His name is Romero, He worked for 20 years in Mijas pueblo, (thats where we go on holiday) as a Donkey taxi.
Thats the reason I picked him.
The place is kept so clean no smell few flies.
    They servive on donations.
Some of the poor donkeys there are in such a state when they are found.
I think they do a great job.
If you would like to see him and his friends , he is on their web site.

Amazing creatures especially so in that they are so long lived.

I had no idea they lived so long.
I didn't really think about donkeys until we started to holiday in Mijas and watched what was happening to them and the poor way they were kept and treated.
That as now changed thanks partly to people pressure and the donkey rescue centre who now monitor the donkeys with a vet each year.
They have a better shelter from the sun and water all the time.
They have to have a pass stamp on them to show they are fit to work.
It's not ideal, but it's a lot better than 10 years ago.
They would like to enforce a weight limit of 8 stone, that the donkeys would have to carry which really means just children to stop the very big over weight tourists riding them.
I can't believe these people want to ride the poor things.

One of the poor Donkey taxis standing in the midday sun no water or shade.
This was taken a few years ago, I'm pleased to say the conditions are much better now.
