I make no apology for this, as I am dead chuffed with myself. P1010771.JPG

Mother nature has (with a little nudge in the right direction from me) given us our first home grown cucumber! I reckon it will be ready in a week or so?

Thanks mate :) - a few years ago, I had zero interest in anything more than grass, and certainly never would have dreamed of growing my own fruit and veg, so this really feels like a milestone.

Very impressive! Like you, I am new to this. You get a real buzz when you know you have actually grown it from scratch...Well done. I've been out in the garden tonight, already making plans for which patch of grass is going to disappear for my extended vegetable garden, 2013!
That'll go really nice in a sandwich with homemade bread...

                Hi fc

I was the same as you a couple of years ago, mow the lawn and a few plants in pots and that was about it. Now I've got a raised bed and pots full of veg and have grown all this years bedding from seed. I found some courgettes on my plants yesterday and it made me feel so good. No cues yet but fingers crossed I will get some.

And there is the real irony - I will never get to eat one of my own cues, as I am allergic to them! Still, the rest of the family like them, so hopefully we'll save a few quid through the summer.

I'll cross my fingers for you. :)

Can anyone tell me how I know when its ready to harvest? I've just measured it, and its 14½ inches long :hapydancsmil:, however its still got a few of the wee nobbly bits on the outside - am I right in presuming that once these go, its then ready?
