I know this is an Acer but which one

    I brought this Acer around 8 years ago from a local garden centre..

    It's not in the best of condition, partly because it's in the same pot that we brought it in, and mother-in-law has an habit of giving a serve cut back, reckons the lovely red branches it has over the winter months look untidy!

    Very very hard to give accurate id..other than Acer palmatum atropururea dissectum..
    In other words an Acer with purple dissected leaves.
    There are several named cultivars that it might be but I would not like to guess which it might be from a pic.

    Am I seeing plain green leaves near the bottom of it.?
    It has probably been grafted onto Acer palmatum roots
    Any green leaved shoots from the root stock need to be removed asap.
