I seemed to have gained a white foxglove in the garden. Are the stalks normally flat with more than the normal number of flowers?
pwkg, it is not normal but 'Fasciation' as it is known happens when something 'goes wrong' at the tips of the plant cells and grow laterally instead of vertically. It can also be caused by pathogens, damage to the plant tip or even herbicides.
Fasciation is a most bizarre thing. This is a Verbascum that I saw at Harewood House a couple of years ago. Like yours pwkg, the flowers seem to be coming straight out of the stem.
OMG !! At least now I know what this is.:thumb: Last year I had that happen to 2 plants in the garden in the last 2 years. I worried tath I had caused it by maybe feeding the plants too much. Looks totally wierd and made me think of triffids.
Well, you learn something new on here everyday. I've never heard of fasciation, but on reflection I had an anemone which did it this year. My husband has just given me an explanation of it - well description at least. And it does make for a beautiful Foxglove PWKG.
