Shame. The local authorities are probably worried that too much of a show might cause slight offence maybe one very moody person in some way. We are not allowed to be proud of anything anymore:(

During my time I marched through London, York, Ely and Cardiff with drums banging and Bayonets flashing. It was hard work but the crowds appreciated it.
Now I would like to pay my respect to this new generation of forces.
Not asking to much am I?

I certainly don't think you are asking much at all Capney. I find it disgusting the way that members, past and present, of our armed forces are treated here - by those in command of the country. People hate the 'americanisation' of parades and such, but they do show pride in those that choose to stand and fight for their country. They can throw a parade together in no time. Sorry, but if it would cause offense to anybody - they're more than free to leave the country that they chose to come to.

The pageantry around traditional parades is not an 'Americanisation', it predates America being colonised by hundreds of years. Back in Medieval times it was mandatory for all young men to perform drills in the village/town square every sunday.

Our armed forces are treat with contempt these days by some. Sadly those 'some' include the government that employs them, but even worse than that, it includes some of the ordinary folks that the military is there to look after. People can't seem to differentiate these days between the actions of the politicians, who send brave men and women off to fight wars that have nothing to do with us, and the actions of the brave souls that leaves their loved ones at home while they go off and risk their lives for their country. We can be ashamed of our government for some of the things they've dragged our lads and lasses into, but at the same time we should still be allowed to be proud of those lads and lasses themselves, who are not politicians, but are just brave folks that dare do a job that most of us, if we're honest, daren't do ourselves.

Most people are proud of them I reckon, and they should be, but a minority of disrespectful folks raise objection and the powers that be bow down to them, to the detriment of everyone else.

Hi Robert tomorrow we also have Armed Forces weekend In Chatham There will be a march past of all the armed forces through the Towns at 10.30am ending at the old Dockyard, they have sold out of tickets to get in there ,they have sold 33,000 but I shall be there, also the Red Arrows will fly over at 3.30pm plus other flying displays,The only negative about the day is that no one from the immediate Royal family will be there ,They said they had personal things planned,so they have sent the Duke of Gloucester 19th in line for the Throne:)

Not bad getting the Duke of Gloucester - he is a grandson of King George V after all. He's only 19th in the line of succession because the Queen's immediate family bumped him there!

my opinion for what its worth is if anyone is likely to be offended at a military parade, the simple answer is don't attend and button it.

all our military both young and old deserve a proper parade with buckets of respect and we all should respect the people who do attend and who wish to show their appreciation for our military(easier said with such self centred ingrates infesting our country:mad:).

    Thanks Kandyfloss
Thats great. I have been looking for a site like this for awhile.
A quick look shows how little York are doing towards Armed forces day.
Maye next year the city fathers may see some sense and offer something far better
