More the type than the exact variety I would like to know what it is. It smells wonderful and I sniff this every time I walk by it.

It looks like a Rugosa to me but hard to see the stems. Easy way to tell: is it really really spikey, like so many spikes on the stems that there is no safe place to put your fingers? If so it is a Rugosa, if it has normal rose thorns then it's not.

I agree with Sandy, "M"s rose is Rosa Canina, it doesn't have the amount of thorns that Rugosa has.

I think I've got about 17/18 different roses around the garden but when you see a rose like that, and I'm not fond of pink, it does give you the "want" itch.:dunno::heehee:

This thread is getting a little confusing.
Is everyone talking about the very first pic as posted by Jungle Jane..or are some folk looking at the pic posted by M???

I've changed my mind now I've scrutinised the picture.
The one stem that is showing (right hand side) shows the plethora of tiny spikes down its length. So ...

                  ... definately Rosa Rugosa :dbgrtmb:

Come Autumn, JJ, those flowers will develop into lovely cherry tomato sized hips.

No dispute re M's rose....Rosa canina.
But I thought Sandy was referring to Jungle Janes pic...as Rosa canina.
                    Sheal..please can you clarify.
It is not M's rose that is under discussion but Jungle Janes.

Good morning all @Jungle Jane Rose is the Rosa Regusa/ Scabrosa in my humble opinion ;)

@"M" 's Rose is in my very humble opinion Rosa Regusa/I have studied the leaf shape and size and thorns,so Woos head is well and truly on the block:sofa:
