Good afternoon @Sheal my friend I say that they are both the same:sofa::whistle:

    DOG ROSE

What to look for a scrambling shrub long arching stems armed with curved thorns produces beautiful pink or white flowers in summer Has striking red "rose-hips" in autumn Where found In woodland, hedgerows found throughout the UK, although more common in the south. Prefers heavy soils when to look First flowers in May and June Ripe fruit in September

Not to be confused with he commonly planted Rosa rugosa, below, which flowers earlier;)

Glad we've sorted out that JJ's is a rugosa

One of my rugosa roses came into flower yesterday - it is from one of the ones I had in my previous garden and I wasn't sure which colour it would be. I had hoped it would be one of the white ones ... and it is! :hapydancsmil:
Woo, this must be one of those days I had hoped would not happen but ... I disagree with you that the picture of my rose is the same as that of JJ's
The thorns on my rose are definitely not rugosa spines but the claw shape of a traditional rose. The flower on my rose is also smaller than that of a rosa rugosa.

Those black parts are insects and not part of the rose.

I've never seen a dog rose before, woo  :heehee:
Mine is very young, maybe the thorns will look like that in a year or two? :dunno: Most of the growth on mine is this year only.
So, the question begs to be asked: as we know it is not rosa rugosa and there is doubt it is a dog rose ... wondering now what it could possibly be?
Not that it really matters much. It came from nowhere, it is going nowhere; the insects and wildlife are loving it; I adore its scent and no doubt the hips will add their own drama to the scene. What is not to like? :heehee:
