Going to build a new greenhouse/hothouse from scratch, I think I've bitten off more than I can chew but Carol has faith in me. I can do the concrete base easily enough, the timber framed "upper" is a bit more of a challenge but through perseverance I will get there. Just stuck with the brick built base as I've never laid a brick in my life! Should be interesting?

A spirit level is your best friend, make sure the base is level first and using a line to maintain the level will help when brick laying. If it's single skin, don't go too high without putting in a "pier" to add support. A pier is where you make a section wider to give stability and also make sure you keep the "bond" by over lapping bricks to avoid having joins in a vertical line(easier to draw than describe lol)

Other half is brickie and he's constantly moaning about things not being "plumb" as they call it.. like Burnie said a level and line is your best friend. Oh and cement won't set well if its less than 4c

Should have seen my first wall @Vince :yikes::biggrin:

                  Good advice above

Have a practice with a not too wet mix first, put it together and take it apart till you get the feel for it.

I've got a level, a line, trowel. I've seen that a sand & lime mortar is useful as a tuition tool as it doesn't set?
