Aubergines need quite a long season sown from seed in around Feb, your best bet would be to get to the garden centre and see if you can get some plants to help you catch up a little.

    Steve...:)

Aubergine seeds can be obtained for as little as 69p/pkt for 40 seeds (these were 3 packets for price of 2 until recently, and could be ordered when T&M had P&P free promotions, getting the cost down to only 46p/pkt - I have previously posted about this on this forum) http://www.thompson-morgan.com/publ...ction&portal:isSecure=false&productCode=564TM and a 2nd class stamp costs 53p

T&M also had a Sunflower seeds special offer that worked out even cheaper per packet.

Not sure if I have any sunflower seeds or not, but will endeavour to have a look tomorrow for you. I do have French & African Marigolds, and Malva Zebrina if some of those are any good to you?

Beware that it is too late to plant them ... you need to get some plants this late in the season, or you will spend time, trouble and money growing them and get no, or next to no, crop :(

          Not something I grow, sorry

They'll come up OK ... its just that you will spend all Summer growing them, and they will start to fruit just as the season is winding down.

Why not grow something that will be productive this season? Aubergines are not a very productive crop anyway; they need a greenhouse and only produce a few (3 or 4 unless you are lucky) fruits on each plant. I just think there are better choices of crop ...

I agree. How about courgettes, for example? Easy to grow, can be placed outdoors, will be fruiting by July and very prolific.
