    But I do on this.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25114890

Seems so do key people in the three big political parties plus UKIP.

David Cameron is saying he wants to prevent EU immigrants from being able to claim benefits until they've been here for 3 months, and then even when they do become eligible, they can only claim for up to 6 months unless they can show they're getting a job.

I think it makes perfect sense. It still allows freedom of movement as is a condition of EU membership, but it just means we don't have to pay to keep people here who arrive by choice. It seems to be saying, 'by all means come here, but expect to have to support yourself'. I see nothing wrong with that.

The EU officials are calling Britain 'nasty' because of it. Fine. I never thought I'd say this but sometimes I feel it would be a good thing if outsiders saw Britain as a bit nasty. That way maybe they wouldn't take the urine quite so much.

When I lived in Southern Ireland, after a visit to the dentist where I had been informed as a prsi payer , I was entitled to reduced cost dental care, I received a letter telling me I owed the dentist 20 euro, as you had to pay in for 5 years before being entitled to anything out .
So why are we "nasty" for doing what most other countries do.

I don't think 3 months is long enough. It seems to me that people can come here by choice, stay with friends or relatives who are already here, for 3 months and then claim benefits. So we're "nasty." Bring it on!

For once, I agree with him (and that in itself sticks in my throat) - however, I cannot help but think that he is making a lot of noise to gain popularity, safe in the knowledge that he cannot actually do what he wants to because the 'big bad boys' in Europe won't let him.

It fits his purposes perfectly if you think about it - not only do the Tories want to push for a referendum regarding our involvement in Europe, but they also need to regain votes that have been lost to UKIP

He probably said "nasty" because he knows what a bunch of "do gooders" we are, and how the word "nasty" will bring them to the fore.
Other countries it wouldn't work with, but you can bet the good old UK will back down, once accused by a foreigner of being "nasty".

Blowing hot air again Mr Cameron
We should just shut the gates full stop now!
Only skilled workers should be allowed in were there needed.
Non skilled work should be filled by UK Nationals or by non uk nationals that have been here at least 3 years

I suspect this is just kicking the issue into the long grass and crunch time (after lots of expensive appeals and gazillions spent on legal aid for those appealing against it) will be after the next election.

When I was off work last year I was only given £70pw JSA, after paying in for over 40 years and never ever claiming before.
I had to jump through so many hoops, set up by the job centre, I eventually stopped claiming and found myself a job, they were no help whatsoever.

So to say they need to be here for 3 months is ridiculous, that I assume would be 3 months without a job followed by another 6 months without a job.
And who is to say they would go back home after then?

The charities would start helping them to stay here, and they will live rough on the streets.

Been there. I know exactly what you mean.

Its a long way from perfect, but its a step in the right direction.

The thing is that even this morning there was some "expert" on TV saying that the amount of foreigners coming hear from the EU and claiming benefit was very small, and far less than those UK citizens doing the same.
There are a bunch of idiots out there that are running things, by that I dont mean just the useless politicians, more the whole of the Civil Service.
They use statistics for their own ends and should be made to mingle with the real world.

I've never really thought Politician actually run the country any way, they try to put their "slant", on what is basically a bunch of faceless twits that do the job regardless of who is in power, that's why things never really change whoever you vote for.

Lets face it, what qualification do you need to become PM or Chancellor, none that I know of.
