Firstly, is it possible to take cuttings from Cineraria, if not do they seed and can I take seed and plant it? Also I have just bought a tiny Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum' which I would like to grow in a pot. What would be the best soil to plant it up in. I fell for this Acer when I saw the one Diath posted in its autumn colours. Mine is so tiny it just looks like a twig, but am looking forward to watching it grow over the years. (fingers crossed). Thanks 02

O2, I`ve never taken cuttings from Cineraria, so my advice would be, try it. You`ve nothing to lose. They should seed, and I see know reason why you can`t grow from it. As for the Acer it needs an ericaceous compost.:thumb:

Acers prefer some shade and shelter from the wind or their leaves will shrivel. They are acid lovers so as daithplant says, ericaceous compost is best - unless your soil is acid.
As for cineraria, no sure about propogation but give it a try. I did once manage to save mine from one year to the next but they got rather straggly.

Thanks Dia and wilroda, Will give the cuttings a try as you say what have I got to lose, and if they seed I will give them a try and let you know if they take. Ericaceous compost it is then for my acer, and will find a sheltered spot for it. Cheers :thumb: 02

O2, careful with the watering, and give them all a fine misting 2 or 3 times a day. Especially in hot, sunny weather.:thumb:
