I have an ice plant and I was wondering if it could be split and replanted? If so, when would it best to do it and would it flower next year?

    Evening, pip. [IMG]

As they are hardy, you can divide them in the Autumn or Spring. Perhaps in your area the Autumn is fine, I would think the Spring in the coldest parts of the country.

Personally, when I was in Bucks, I did things as and when I felt like it and was quite successful. Here it is another story ... must be Autumn/Winter for me for such things. Just saying this to you for future reference. [IMG]

I think if you did it now, flowering could occur next year ... just a guess. [IMG]

I have just had a look in my propagation book. It says division in April or August. I agree with Macleaf - it a tough weed really. I am sure you could do it anytime - I don't think now would be a problem.

Thanks for the help and advice, will be more questions over the winter months as I try to get to grips with my new garden. Not as easy to maintain as my previous container garden but I can`t wait to tackle it and see the results next spring/summer. :D :D

I have one of these plants, but have never split it. However I would imagine that spring would be the best time to do it since if you did it now you would spoil the flowering display.

Same would apply (with exceptions) to other autumn flowering perennials.

    Hope this helps
