ID help plz x

hi,i found this growing behind privet edge i cut down last yr,is it a weed? i cant see anymore in the garden so im unsure and this is a tree about 25ft high near the bottom of my garden,some one told me it was a smoking joe?? but i googled that and got no results,thanks for looking hope you can shed some light xx

 

Not sure about the first one but the tree/large shrub looks like a Purple Smoke Bush (cotinus coggygria 'royal purple' perhaps?)...

 

nice one thanks x i just googled that and looks the same..maybe mine needs chopping down a tad ,it does have new leaves at the bottom x

 

The Cotinus' can be hacked back, they're tough plants !

 

I've got some of the top one. It was growing in a pot, and I assumed it was Honesty, so I've planted them out. Some of them are producing very large leaves for an Honesty plant, though. I'll find out next spring!

 

i bet it is madahhliathere is a honesty about a foot away from it x thanks i would never of guessed thats a young honesty thou im learning so much from you all xx thank you x
