    Hi everyone.

I planted a perennial last year (can't remember what it is called, but it has pretty red spikes of flowers) and it has died back. I've just been out to start the January tidy up and noticed this huge amout of growth all through the bottom of the dead stalks. Literally clumped thick!

Is this a weed or os it new growth? I really hope it is not a weed.. I can't imagine what it could be?

I would give it a little while, but you can soon dig them up and saw through them with an old bread knife, dividing into two or three bits, and replant. They are so easy to multiply. I bought one plant of Lobelia 'Queen Victoria' and within about three or four years, I had multiplied that to 60 or more plants. You can do it either in the autumn or spring - and very often both.
