Is this some type of Jasmine? we saw it in a public garden in Cornwall, we noticed it as it was quite scented and my wife wants to get one for our garden but sure exactly what to look out for.

Or Sarcococca hookeriana 'Digyna' if it's upright with narrow, pointed leaves. Or Sarcococca h. humilis if it's low-growing :)

Definitely sarcococca. It's winter flowering and highly scented. The flowers will turn into black berries during late Spring and into Summer.

Not all Sarcococca have black berries.
        Some have red!
        One of my favourite plants.
The scent is fab. Super glossy evergreen leaves, compact growing.
I have given many as gifts to friends and advised them to plant it near to the front or back door.

However in spite of planting every sp and named cultivar I could track down in my old garden I still fail dismally to be able to id them.

They have male flowers and really tiny female flowers.
        Some have lovely crimson stamen.

Every garden must surely have room for just one.
