Can I ask for some help with the ID of this wild flower that has sprouted up in my border next to my cornflowers. The bee's love it so I am hoping it is something that I can grow.

Hi Seb, still looks like a Cornflower to me ... did you put a mixed variety in?

I am thinking more of a Lantana or Verbena.

Sadly it doesn't appear to be either. And they don't look like a cornflower. They have leaves that are quite similar to ferns and the bud is a sphere and the flowers open across the entire bulb. I find it to be a nice edition to the garden and I see bees being attracted to it a lot more then my borage.

That looks like Phacelia campaniflora, seb. That and it's cousin tanacetifolia seem to be arriving unexpectedly all over the UK. If you let it go to seed, you'll always have a few plants!

This is difficult but I'm sure I've seen it ...

GA, it is definitely not Lantana nor Verbena ... I have both and neither the leaves nor flowers are similar.

Noisette, I don't think it is your plant either.

I have a 'home day' tomorrow so I will get out my Med books and look because it has that feel to me ... may be wrong, and probably am, but ... :heehee:

In the meantime, no doubt SilverSurfer will come along and identify ...
