I was just having a thought of possibly having a comp. this year for growing of veg.

For example, largest pumpkin etc ?

Anyone have any ideas, or want to take the lead on such comp. , let me know [IMG]

Lack of imagination there Mod!!. You should have gone for taste. Then G.C. would have had to pay you to go on a country wide jolly tasteing veggies.

Good Idea.I am hoping to beat my record of 51.5 lb for my pumpkin, I grew last year.I was so chuffed as it was my first attempt. The winning one in our local allotment competiton was 112lb over double mine, but it was the taking part that was the best bit...oh and meeting one of the GC members [IMG]

Woo.I will find the winning one,and you will see how tiny mine looks compared to that one.It took four grown men to lift it,it was that heavy. The ones above are not at the fullest growth in those photos...

Would it not be better to have a comp growing something that is actually useful.
I say this as I too grew pumpkins for the first time last year and apart from the one I gave away at Halloween I've still two in the garage going nowhere.
Cant give em away, everone says WOW, and thats it.
Not many people have the acreage required to grow a good pumkin either.

Hows about the heaviest onion. [IMG]

Makes sense to me, Pete - can't stand pumpkins - all you can do with them is make pumpkin pie, and all it tastes of is what you add to the pumpkin..... :D
