    Hello everyone!
My neighbours have considerately put a satellite dish on a pole on the back of their garage which my garden faces. It sticks out 2 metres above their apex. Council don’t care!
So my view has changed and not for the better!!!!
What can I plant in front that won’t cost the earth but is already a good 4m plus? I can’t bear to look at it anymore. Thank you in advance

Hi and Welcome to the forum,

It does not look that obtrusive from your photo, but thats just our take, can see how it could look worse to you.

To put something against your fence to reach that high, you are probably looking at something like a Leylandii which you can buy cheaply as a smaller plant though taking a year or two to get to 4mtrs.
However you can buy 4mtr high Pleached versions of Leylandii or other similar trees but at a very high price !
Equally depending on your take, such a tree might look worse/out of place than the mast !

One thing you do not mention is the distance from the fence to your viewing point ?
If thats mainly on say a window view or seating area closer to your house you could put something smaller in front of that to block its view ?

Nothing that I can think of; any tree that high will be expensive and require careful planting and aftercare until established. Also think about how this size tree will affect your garden.
To get a climber up that high you will need something for it to climb up.
I presume you have discussed the matter with your neighbours.

Cheapest option is seed-raised Eucalyptus...gunnii, perriniana, citriodora, neglecta and pauciflora ssp. niphophila are all reckoned to be hardy. They grow very quickly with plenty of watering and can be pruned to whatever height you want. Other plants do survive under them, with a bit of pampering.

Willow. Specifically I think it's called osier willow. I have loads in my garden. It grows like crazy and almost entirely vertically. It roots easily from cuttings and will easily put on 6ft or more per year.
