Ideas on what to do with this planter please

Just bought this but I’ve never done any planting it’s been double treated so shouldn’t rot have bought 2 bags of wood bark and two large bags of compost any ideas please

 

Fill it with multi purpose compost, buy some bedding, make holes about the size of said bedding, plant! Water and enjoy
As for bark, no need unless you want to "top" the bed.
If you do, just scatter the bark around the plants. It's purely for asthecthic reasons.
Main thing is watering.plants near walls for example can become dry,even after rain.
Find some bedding you like, lots around, plant it, water it, enjoy it

If you can place it in the sun I would fill it with lavendar. Evergreen aromatic foliage and billowing with wonderfully scented flowers in summer

 

Ready for planting now ! I’m thinking of putting dwarf conifers in it something around 2-3 ft High ?? What else would go well with these

Glyphosate? Sorry! The 'traditional' companion plants are heathers. Make sure they'll tolerate non-ericaceaous compost, though. Small-leaved ivies to trail over the front?

 

Conifers sold as dwarf conifers are rarely dwarf, they are just dwarf at the time until they become monsters.

Have you just filled it with multipurpose compost ? If you want a more permanent planting its ideal to use a soil based compost John innes No3 , compost only has enough feed in it for weeks , JI no3 last considerably longer life, mix it 50 - 50 with the multi compost .

I like choyisa espically white dazzler or goldfingers, you could plant Goldfingers ( one at each end ) with another plant in the middle - pittosperum tom thumb - fushia dollar princess / other - phormium - berberis orange rocket / orange sunrise / rosy rocket and other berberis - ophiopogan would look well but plant around / side of the choysia GF instead or herbaecous plant like salvia nemorosa carradonna - penstemon raven maybe squeeze some echinacea .

Beds like that I tend to plant bedding plants in for summer like trailing petunia etc and daffs / tulips for late winter spring display.

 

Hi I put these in today it does say they don’t grow any more than 2ft on the label in height .

bedding plants are ideal especially when you want colour may have to wait abit before planting out summer bedding in case of a frost. Begonias are very easy and you can get trailing variety's . Petunia are nice and lobelia plus lots of other bedding plants

If you want some more permanent but will not flower as long as bedding plants, plants like aubrieta - campanula portenschlagiana trail over the edge , could plant a Heuchera or carex eversheen or other grass / foliage plants would look nice with the conifers. To fill inbetween the conifers / foliage plant if you wish salvia nemorosa / penstemons / lavender / fuchsia / gaillardia ( bit brash for my taste ) - agastache kudos red yellow coral or orange flower for long spells - nepata walkers low or junior walker - sedum jose aubriene or red cauli. I hope that enough ideas , if you are unsure just ask away I am sure me and other members can help.
