Please help me identify this plant please.
I planted it last year and I could have sworn that the label said honeysuckle on it.
But I don't think it looks anything like a honeysuckle! I think it looks more like a flowering currant.

Please help identify it for me.
    Thanks in advance.

Maybe a close-up of the leaves would help but from what I can see I think it might be a Hawthorn

    Thanks for your reply.
I had hoped that would be close enough!
Here is some attempts at close up shots, however they are not very clear (I've just got a little Kodak easy share CX6200 )
please have a look for me, thank you.

I think that Aesculus is right, I'm thinking Hawthorn also.

Does it have any thorns on the stems?

If it was a Flowering Current, I would have thought it would have been in flower.

    Hope this Helps!

Rub the leaves-if they are very aromatic then it sounds like flowering currant, although it should be in flower, I don't think it is the flowering currant, but I am a touch unsure about it being hawthorn, the leaves look far ahead of those that I have seen near me, but that might mean nothing.

    Could it be a gooseberry?

I recognise the leaves, but can not work out what it is!

I thought it might be physocarpus, but again the leaves of that are not quite right, not shiny enough and too serrated. I too would go with gooseberry, except that the stems don't appear to have any thorns. So the best bet is probably black or redcurrant, rather than flowering currant.

    Thanks again everyone.
I ran out to check the leaves, no noticable scent. No thorns either and no sign of any flowers!!
    Any further ideas gratefully received.

That's the blinking problem with spring, everything looks the same-although,

I don't think hawthorne-for me, the leaves are too advanced for this time of year

Flowering currant is out too because the leaves are very strongly aromatic on those, and would be in flower-no mistaking that

Not gooseberry, no thorns, not viburnum so like Blackthorn I'm left thinking red or black currant.

    I feel such a dunce.

This is my redcurrant-merely a baby by comparison to yours. I think it matches.

And thank Blackthorn for your kind words, it means a great deal to me today especially.

Yes Blackthorn, life-as per blinking usual. But don't worry, it is always ok in the end.

So, it's probably a black or redcurrant then?
Is there anything special I should be doing to it and can you eat the currants (if they ever appear?) or would it be non-edible?
A lot of questions, I know, thanks for your replies.
