The first is Caesalpinia Gilliesii.(Bird of Paradise)

The second is probably Leonotis or possibly kangaroo paw(Anigozanthos).Need a bigger picture.

Thankyou Pete and Ivory. Knew I could rely on GC for the answers. Can I grow that Bird of Paradise here? I absolutely love it.

You can grow it here but probably best on a south or west facing wall.
It needs all the heat that it can get.

It takes a while to get going, so not good if your in a hurry to see the flowers:)

Pete thanks very much for your help. I'll give it a go.

Victoria - you don't know how much I envy you with your wonderful climate. I would love some of the seeds please. I will pm you.
The picture looks very like the other flower but it was very tall weaving through the Bourganvillea - about 10 ft I should think.

Thankyou to all of you for your helpful answers.

If you do want to grow Caesalpinia Clematis, they will benefit from a warm water soak for 24 hours to swell the seed and aid germination. Once they start to grow they will need pinching out as they can become spindly.
If grown in a heated greenhouse they can flower in two years.:)
