I have no idea what this Rose is called. It is a species Rose maybe?. It grows about 5ft tall suckers profusely, very small dark green leaves, has lethal thorns and smells divine. The perfume is intense and almost has a slight citronella fragrance. Only flowers once at this time of year. I brought a piece of it from another garden but clueless to what it is called and would love to know. While the flowers are quite nice it is the perfume which is it's wow factor. I would say the flower are slightly more dusky pink in real life Wish all Roses had perfume like this 1, sadly many of the hybridised Roses have little or no scent. Sure either @Silver surfer or @wiseowl will come to my aid!

Good afternoon @silu my friend its very difficult to ID a Rose but between us we will try. These will help us immensely:smile: as it only flowers once a year I am leaning towards a Rambling Rose, when you say citronella I take it that it is a lemony scent

But I am on the case;)

1.A petal count on a single bloom
      2,Does it produce Rose hips

Hello @wiseowl , thanks so much for at least attempting to identify my Rose bush. Well counting petals is a new 1 on me! Answer 24 petals. I counted the small leaves per stem and they vary? usually 9 but sometimes 11 and also a few younger with 7. No hips that I can remember and as I said before it suckers profusely. The bush you can see in the photo was originally about 4 stems. It's now quite substantial after 12 years of being here and would be bigger if I hadn't dug up a chunk for a friend and another chunk which I put in another area of the garden and the driveway has stopped it from spreading further. Short of sending you a bit (more than welcome to some if you'd like me to send you some suckers at the end of the season) that's about all I can tell you other than it's wafting the most gorgeous scent all over the garden. Sort of like a lemon sherbet is how I would describe it. The Rose was in a previous home where the garden hadn't had any additions for a long time by the looks of things. All the plants in it were very old but had been quite nice at 1 time. The house was Victorian and it wouldn't surprise me if the Rose had been planted soon after the house was built.Hope this info may help. Thanks anyway.

Looks a possibility @wiseowl. It isn't the great version as the flowers are too "complicated", much bigger and the leaves are much much bigger too. I'm quite happy to call my Rose Maiden's Blush, it's a lovely name, wonder how old the variety is? Doubt there are many maidens about these days far less blushing:). Thanks for all the hard work.

Hi @wiseowl all the above are spot on except the bloom size ("bloom size large"). I would say the biggest blooms would be no bigger than a golf ball and many are smaller than that. It hadn't crossed my mind before but it is quite tolerant of shade as is next door to my huge blue Cedar and the photo is of the north facing side of the shrub which is just as covered in blooms as the south facing one I DOB sounds about right too! The whole bush is buzzing today as it's sunny so the scent is very strong and my garden is home to many Bees.

OMG @wiseowl , have you done anything else for the last 2 days other than to pull your hair out trying to identify my Rose?! I'll go through the list tonight and see which looks the most similar. STOP now otherwise I will feel really guilty taking up so much of your time. I didn't have a clue there were so many possibilities, I do now:). I'll post which I think could be the "winner" after I've trawled through your extensive list tonight.

WELL @wiseowl I have wadded through all your suggestions and from the images available on the net I am pretty certain my Rose bush is Small Maiden's Blush, certainly many of the other suggestions have flowers that aren't quite right.
That's what I'm going to call her anyway and continue to enjoy her simplicity and scent. I'm very lucky to have a huge garden so can afford to grow both simple plants and those which are a bit OTT a la below, flowers the size of dinner plates but no scent. I enjoy them all big and small.
