Identification please

    Hi sure this is a very simple question but could someone please identity this plant give advice on the best way to prune it, would it be possible to prune it now in order to make it smaller and give it a nicer shape.

    Hi Ashleigh it looks like a 'Red Robin' which needs very little pruning - although they cane be trimmed a little in spring or autumn to keep its shape.

      Thank you, makes it so easy to find out more about the plant when you know its name. It just need a light pruning as it growing all lopsided.

      I think you can prune them any which way you choose, I think I saw them pleached once.

      Hi Ashleigh. I prune mine back quite hard usually in late spring early summer, depending on whether it's in flower or not (as you can see in the 1st photo). They do grow back quickly and it's the new leaves which are the red ones, as you'll see after you've pruned yours and it starts to grow back. Be brave! Decide on the shape you want and just go for it! :yay: I don't think you can go far wrong with a photinia.
