The leaves are very reminiscent of Comfrey......

Has it produced flowers at all? If so, do you have a photo or can you describe them?

Hi @Pat macaulay and welcome to Gardeners Corner :sign0016:

I have moved your post into a thread of its own, which will hopefully get you some more views and an answer. If the leaves on your plant were broader, I would have guessed that it was burdock, but they seem too narrow for that.

@Silver surfer is one of our resident experts - hopefully she will be along soon, and I would lay money that she will give you the right answer.

I look forward to seeing you around the forums, and if I can be of any help, just say.

Wondering if that is a first year Verbascum  - not sure, but that was the initial thought. Are the leaves soft and furry?

I was plumping for verbascum but which one I have no idea.
A bit of background info might help regarding ID, like did it just come up on its own, or was it planted by someone else?

Well if my memory serves me correctly I have a Purple Mullein Verbascum Phoenician or something like that in its first year.. I just took a pic and it’s leaves are smooth.. Not best pic as nearly dark and no flash at mo will get a better one..

The yellow Verbascum grows all over the place here without any assistance from me - in fact it can be a bit of a nuisance.

I get the yellow one come up from seed as well.
Not sure the leaves are hairy enough for that one though.
