    Hi all,
Looking to hide an ugly wall, and keep seeing these which would be ideal.
I’m guessing it could maybe be campanula or aubretia? But not sure.
How long do you think they take to get to this size?
    Cheers.

Aubretia is certainly in flower at this time of year, so it's more likely to be that than campanula, which does trail depending on variety.
Some [campanulas] will flower earlier depending on the location though, but I think it's still a bit early for them.
The photo isn't clear enough to be sure.

Yes agree it’s Campanula possibly the unpronounceable one poscharskyana. I always have to re-Google the name as I can never remember it.

We had loads at a previous house, if you yank all the flower stems off when they go over it will flower again.

My aubretia has flowered and gone over but looked just like that hanging over the edge of a wall. I would guess that picture is of several plants planted along the top of the wall to cover that kind of area. Aubretia should be given a short back and sides immediately after flowering to encourage dense growth or it becomes rather spindly and sparse.

Forgot to answer your question re growth. It was fairly established when we inherited it but it grow quickly each season, throwing out long stems which grew up the house walls, maybe 30-40cms and/or would trail down depending where it was growing. It self seeds around and would grow in the cracks between paving.

Campanula has bell shaped flowers, aubretia has flatter primrose shaped flowers. If your plants are growing up walls as well as hanging it sounds more like campanula.

There is another campanula which would probably work with another name I can’t remember portenschlagia(?). That might not be quite right but should be close enough to find it - I’m confident if the porten bit, it’s after that it all goes downhill

We’ve got an aubretia that took 2 years to get pretty big. Haven’t got a campanula though.

                  Sorry,
Can’t get another photo as that was taken in the Peak district at the weekend and I’m at work at the moment.
But it was everywhere spilling down the stone cottage walls.
Would be ideal for what I’m looking for.

You would have to take into account your own conditions and climate too @Grays . Those campanulas will take sun if they're happy at their feet, and get well established, and positively thrive in lots of shade and damp soil, but aubrieta likes sun and sharp drainage, so you may have to experiment.

The poscharskyana campanula can be a thug if it's happy, but easy enough to trim. I've not grown the other unpronounceable one but I think it's pretty vigorous too.
Both types of plant are easy enough to get hold of, and you should be able to compare photos online of the flowers so that you know for sure which one you saw

Around here, apart from the two mentioned, there is an abundance of a white flowered plant that hangs down nicely over the walls. No idea what it is, but sure others here will know.
